After enduring eight couch-less years in New York—watching movies and writing and, dare I say it, eating meals in my bed—I’m overdue for the first big furniture investment many twenty-somethings make: buying a sofa. But I’ve been hesitant to take the plunge (read: Expert Advice: How to Buy a Couch that Will Last).
But at last I’ve found a couch I feel confident about. It’s the latest release—and the first sofa—from Detroit-based flat-pack furniture company Floyd, and is fairly priced, built to last, and easily taken apart (and put back together) for city dwellers who move house frequently. I love the pared-down, laid-back design—and Julie couldn’t help but notice similarities to a longtime favorite which is a grade above, price-wise. Which would you choose?

A few notable differences: Hay’s version has piping on its cushions (one of our Design Trends for Fall 2018), and a canvas, not wood, frame.
